Revel in the Mangosteen Experience
The latest craze and wave to hit the natural health products industry is the mangosteen experience. The reasoning behind this wave points toward the incredible nutritional and healthful qualities contained within this tropical fruit. The mangosteen fruit is known for having effective antioxidant powers, which gives it the properties of being an anti-inflammatory, anti-cancer, anti-bacterial, anti-fungal and more. If that was not enough, the mangosteen fruit also contains a wide spectrum of nutrients, vitamins and minerals that definitely create a total body experience and sense of health; and, it has a pleasant palate pleasing taste. With all this goodness, it is no wonder the mangosteen has made such waves as being the fruit of good health. The history behind the tropical mangosteen fruit takes you on a journey to regions of Southeast Asia, where its origins are native to the Sunda Islands and Moluccas. Despite the appearance of "mango" in its name, the mangosteen is not a mango or nor does it belong in the mango family. The mangosteen fruit thrives and grows well in tropical climates, which is why it was only found in the regions of Southeast Asia. However, today, mangosteen is being cultivated in other tropical climates like Hawaii, helping expand distribution. In spite of this, though, the whole mangosteen fruit is unavailable in the continental United States due to regulations stemming from fumigation issues. Though hard to find, the mangosteen fruit has been frozen and canned for distribution to a wider reach of customers, allowing more and more people to try and enjoy the mangosteen experience. There has been so much positive enthusiasm surrounding the mangosteen fruit, especially amongst those who know it best, the people native to Southeast Asia. However, those involved in cultivating and harvesting the mangosteen fruit do not see what the fuss is over, and this attitude, no doubt, stems from the complications that arise with growing this often-finicky tree. The mangosteen tree needs the stability of the conditions created in a tropical environment in order to grow and adjust well. This often creates problems for the mangosteen tree when there is too much rain or a change in temperature, which could then cause the tree to suffer and diminish fruit growth. It is these situations that cause many growers to feel the effort is not worth it. However, despite the difficulties of growing mangosteen, there are now greenhouses that can grow the mangosteen trees with little efforts. Actually, mangosteen comes in other varieties, but there is only one type of mangosteen that is utilized for this healthy experience. It has been rumored that in the Sulu Islands there is a larger type of mangosteen, but its size makes it difficult to survive transport. The mangosteen is considered an ultra-tropical fruit because it only thrives in temperatures between 40 and 100 degrees Fahrenheit, and temperatures below or above will destroy it. It is unfortunate that some feel the hassle that goes into growing this tree is not worth it; the effort and care taken will produce an extraordinary mangosteen experience.
